"Petersfield singer-songwriter Sertari – is one step away from a landmark gig at London’s O2 Arena after reaching the regional final of the Open Mic 2012 competition at Ferneham Hall in Fareham.

PAUL FERGUSON found out more:

Anyone who saw Sertari perform at the Petersfield Summer Festival or above The Square Brewery will know that she’s pretty special. Her mix of pop, rock and electro have won her a legion of fans across the UK and an even bigger audience in her family’s native Cyprus.

Sertari is one performance away from the finals of the UK Open Mic 2012 competition and a gig at the O2 Arena in London. She is one of the favourites to progress from next month’s regional final in Fareham having sailed through the previous round.

She was one of the star performers at the summer festival and is a regular draw at venues in Portsmouth, Brighton and Guildford. Sertari is backed by guitarist Alex Canadine and her drummer, producer Ben Knight, while her influences range from Van Halen and Guns n Roses to Madonna and No Doubt.

She is also a popular singer in Cyprus, where she received a lot of favourable press and hopes to tour next year. In the meantime, there’s the lure of more gigs and the regional final at Ferneham Hall on October 7. There’s a prize of £5,000 for the overall winners, with the final judges including DJ Annie Nightingale, singer Shola Ama, and former D:Ream frontman Pete Cunna.

“We’re going to try to do something a little bit clever with our song at our audition in Fareham which will involve
a cover.
